The water exits the wells of the Boise Warm Springs Water District at a temperature of 176 ºF. This is extremely hot and can cause severe injury in seconds.

As a guide, hot water causes third degree burns…
… in 1 second at 156 ºF
… in 2 seconds at 149 ºF
… in 5 seconds at 140 ºF
… in 15 seconds at 133 ºF

The water cools only slightly as it reaches homes and businesses of the District. Thus, only trained professionals should perform work on any new or existing geothermal installations. For questions or guidance, please contact the District.

The water distribution system of the District is continually being updated to ensure the integrity of the system. However, leaks in the system may occur and may reach the surface. If you suspect that there is a leak in the geothermal system, the water could be extremely hot. Exercise caution in attempting to assess any water leaks that could be geothermal.
